October 24-28, School of Tomorrow Schools will send representatives from all over the Philippines to Cebu for the National Convention.  Happy Horizons Academy is one of the host schools.  Twenty Two of the students will be participating in everything from sports to chess.

Eight of our sharpest girls and fourteen of the boys will be going for the "gold".  This is a wonderful opportunity for these "throughaway children" to shine for the glory of God.  During each of our regular chapel services at the Ranch, we have been watching them display their talents, giving speaches, preforming songs and displaying arts and crafts, etc.  Also, the HHA vollyball team will be going up against over 50 schools from around the Philippines.

According to Miss Joy Alacantara, Principal of HHA, "we are ready and are thrilled at the development of the children".  This will be the second time in eight years that the National Convention will be held in Cebu, and only the second time HHA students have been able to participate.

Watch for details as the time grows closer.

In the recent few weeks we have taken on eight new children, four boys and four girls.  It is exciting to see them become adjusted to "life at the ranch".

The four girls all come from abusive situations where they endured many years of molestation and hardship.  Four of the boys are sybillings of our youngest little girl, Medal eight years old.  She is so sweet and excited about being with us.  However, the transition has been most difficult for her seeing she sleeps with the other girls and not with her brothers.  She is adjusting and is now full of smiles and personality plus.

Her youngest brother is only four years old and has become our youngest child now at the ranch.  It has been great to watch him and his three older brothers take their places in our expanding home.  We believe the future is very bright for them.

Please watch for articles on each of the children.

Thank you for your participation with us.  When we get calls from drop in centers we are thrilled to be able to say, "yes we will take them."  It can’t happen without committed sponsors like yourselves.  Check out our photo album for pictures of these new children.

Worldwide there are almost 2 billion children at risk. The fact that so many children are being neglected, abandonedatrisk.jpg and abused is the biggest social problem the world faces today. These are children who are without influence, power or option; children who are hurting and suffering deeply. They are the silent majority  the full extent of their tears and fears known only by God.

Everything that is corrupt in our societies seems to inflict the cruelest blows on these vulnerable little ones who bear the horrible marks of :

  • street children;
  • sexually exploited children and adolescent mothers;
  • children disabled by handicaps and diseases;
  • orphans;
  • children suffering from drug abuse; and
  • war refugees, those traumatized by war, and those victimized by land mines and other weapons of war.

The following statistics serve well to illustrate the enormity of the problems at hand:

  • As of the year 2000, half of the global population is children; 2 billion of these little ones will live in extreme poverty or be at risk.
  • Today, there are an estimated 100 million street children in the world; by the year 2020 the number will have reached 800 million. The Philippines has approximately 1.7 million alone.
  • More than 35,000 children under the age of 5 die every day as a result of malnutrition or starvation. This is the leading cause of death among children.
  • There are at least 10 million child prostitutes today; more than 800,000 girls, ages 7 to 16, are active prostitutes in Thailand alone.
  • More than 2 million children die every year from treatable diseases-many times due to their lack of immunizations.
  • Worldwide, 10 million children will become orphaned as a result of AIDS in the next 5 years; 1,500,00 children are currently infected with AIDS.
  • Over 100 million children are exploited child laborers.
  • Every year 40 million children are aborted.
