Stokeholder’s Meeting Gives Opportunity For Networking Among Cebu’s NGOs and LGUs…

March 16th, Staff from HHCR’s Child Rescue Project met with International Justice Mission and other NGOs and Government Groups to brain storm ways to effectively meet the needs of trafficked girls here in Cebu. Rev. Glenn Garrison stated, “this event was an exceptional opportunity to sit with the Government’s Regional Director of the Dept. of Social Welfare and Development and talk about ways to help these girls get back to a life of productivity and health.” The consensus of the group was that although the need is overwhelming there are resources among the differing groups in Cebu to answer the needs.

It was great to see members of different shelters along with local government organizations putting their heads together to assess resources, needs and try to come up with some kind of minimal standard of care for these often forgotten girls. The question continued to be posed was, “how do you take survivors of trafficking from rescue to productive lives back in their community?” The answer is complex and difficult, but that is what we must do. By providing girls an opportunity to find an alternate life away from the dark underworld of prostitution, drugs and violence, Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch’s, Child Rescue Project is designed to do just that!

April 9, 2007 Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch will be celebrating the dedication of the second phase of our Child Rescue Project, our girl’s dorm at the Ranch Facility. The girls are already moved in and Lindsey Humpston our volunteer from the US is the dorm supervisor. We will also be dedicating our new School Building and the opening of Happy Horizons Vocational Training School.
