Love must be the strongest motivator in the world. It is because of love that we change. It is because of love that we are given new life. It is love that is willing to give everything, every ounce of one’s self – even when it seems there is nothing left to give.
Proof that we have done our job at the Ranch comes when I see the kids doing things out of love. They are like mirrors of our own actions. How they see us responding to people, they will learn to do the same. The more we treat the kids with love, the more they will treat each other with love.
Recently we started doing a new activity to teach the kids how to encourage one another. Every week a child is chosen and it is his or her week to be encouraged. During that week, in addition to the extra smiles and pats on the back, each of the other children makes a card for that child.
We have been so amazed to see the beautiful cards that the kids make! They keep getting more and more creative…it is obvious that the kids take time to prepare the cards with love and care. On Tuesday, I see girls in my dorm already begin to prepare cards for the following Monday (when the cards are presented).
Enjoy the pictures of the cards that are attached – you will see how talented the kids truly are. Also, be encouraged that you can really help out and make a difference in the lives of these kids. This idea for card making came from one of our supporters – someone who has a passion for kids and a passion for creating cards. So, she simply combined the two and asked all of her friends to donate some card making supplies, which they gave to us. With them, we started our beautiful new tradition that teaches the kids to love and show each other their support in new and creative ways.
