“We can get PhP 5000 each for selling our virginity”, Pastor Raul, overheard two girls chatting. Raul, told me the story and I said we must do something about this. Then came the idea of having an outting for these type of girls and by bringing them to the Ranch; having our girls testify about their lives at the Ranch and giving these girls a taste of a life they could only dream of, might entice the girls to join our family. Today that idea became a reality, the outcome was more than we could have imagined. Six of the girls asked if they could join our family at the Ranch. Each of them are just at the age most dangerous for being trafficked, recruited to work in bars and brothels. Each of these inner city girls, grow up in a sex filled enviornment, parents that work in the sex industry, friends and older sisters who are already dancing and selling sex for a living, there is almost no way they can say no. That is where Happy Horizons is making such a difference. By inviting the girls to become scholarship students we take them away from this enviornment and give them a chance at a completely new life. We are working with the parents, who for the most part are in agreement, who understand that they can’t offer them anything else because of poverty and a sense of hopelessness, and for the girls a new sense of being special and honored.
