Does this look like the face of a “slave”? Not hardly! But this face was not always so happy. Bought by an old man in her neigborhood, Madel was anything but a happy go lucky child. After the loss of her parents, her grandmother not able to care for her or her siblings, she became the “sexual slave” of a pervert. The older brothers, addicted to drugs and trying to find ways to feed their growing habit, abused their little sister and sold her for another fix. But today things are different for Madel and her younger brothers. They are safe and life is full of joy and happyness. Because of HHCR’’s Child Rescue Project, Madel and other girls like her can find a loving Christian home where Jesus is more than a name but a reality.
Happy Horizons Children’s Ranch’s new rescue project is a joint venture, with Mission of Mercy, and International Justice Mission. With MofM providing us funding, and IJM providing the investigation, rescue and subsequent prosecution of the offenders, HHCR’s contribution is a key component; providing the aftercare necessary to bring these girls to health and wellness.
Beginning at our safe house, the girls are taken in, given initial couseling and orientation. During the first weeks, they often feel disoriented, scared and even angry, feeling they have not so much been “rescued” as “kidnapped”. We have a short window of opportunity to get them to understand that they are victims of an enormous misjustice. It is during this initial phase that we seek to introduce each one into a personal faith in Christ Jesus. This often takes the form of bringing them deliverance from significant evil influence. For us this is no game, but a fight to the death!
Once we gain the girls trust and confidence, we seek to bring them to an awareness of how special they are to our Heavenly Father. He hasn’t forgotten them, and they can have a future which includes education, a new family of Christian believers, and a new home. We bring them to the Ranch, to our second phase facility, where they can now begin schooling, make new friends and find the family they desperately need. We also work with their biological family if possible. However, we have discovered that many of these families are very toxic to the girls and carefully walk that road.
Child Trafficking is the new slavery of our age. As many as 100,000 girls and boys are trafficked within the Philippines each year. Cebu has become a destination of choice. Although the problem is huge we seek to rescue and rehabilitate one girl at a time. Please join us as a prayer partner, a modern day Abolistionist, and help us stop this child slavery.
